Every week, Quality Wool Managing Director Mark Dyson brings you his summary of the week in wool.
Losing six cents off the Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) to close at 1,369c/kg, the Australian wool market has continued its downward trend with the fourth consecutive week of overall losses.
With 42,737 bales presented over two days, the market opened solidly with strong demand on good style, low vegetable matter wool helping to push all Merino fleece Micron Price Guides (MPGs) up
Selected pockets of the market recorded losses, restricting the EMI to a four‑cent rise for the day.
Day two saw a noticeable softening in bidding intensity, with Merino fleece MPGs dropping up to 27 cents, and only the 17.5 micron MPG in the South posting an increase (four cents) as the he EMI fell by 10 cents for the day.
Heavy rains across parts of the country have resulted in an increase in the amount of unscourable colour and water appearing, best highlighted by studying the amount of colour in the pieces and bellies this week.
In the Eastern regions, over 46 per cent of the skirting offering contained an AWEX‑ID colour qualify of H1, H2, H3 or a water colour qualifier of N1, N2 or
This 46 per cent figure was driven by the Northern region where this figure was nearly 76 per cent.
Next week is the final sale before the one‑week Easter recess. Due to the Good Friday Public Holiday all centres are restricted to two selling days (Tuesday/Wednesday), with 48,413 bales currently expected to be offered.
