Every week, Quality Wool Managing Director Mark Dyson brings you his summary of the week in wool.
The Australian wool market has continued to strengthen for the third consecutive week, with the AWEX Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) gaining seven cents to close at 1,474c/kg.
With a non‑sale week in Fremantle meaning the national offering dropped to just under 30,000 bales, strongest demand was for the medium to broad Merino fleece types, with individual Micron Price Guides (MPGs) in Sydney and Melbourne for 19.
It was falls in some of the finer MPGs, combined with minimal movements in the skirting, crossbred and oddment sectors, that prevented the EMI from a larger increase.
The EMI has risen for the previous three weeks for a total of 60 cents gained, to now sit at its highest point since March 2020.
With the larger volumes and higher prices seen this year, the total dollar amount of wool sold is also tracking well above the previous season.
At the conclusion of this week, the total dollar amount of wool sold for the season was $2,556.7 million, compared to $2,189.1 million for the same time last
Next week is the final sale of the 2021/22 season with Fremantle returning to the selling roster, bolstering the national offering.
Currently, there is expected to be 45,003 bales on offer with all three centres in operation.
