The Australian wool market has turned on its head, with the AWEX Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) recording an overall increase for the first time this season, gaining 36 cents to end the week at 1,271c/kg.
The national offering reduced by 3,935 bales to 32,107 bales, however, it did not seem to affect the results on the week.
The increase in the market was largely driven by solid rises in Merino fleece types, particularly better style wool with favourable additional measurement results.
These gains were reflected across the board in the individual Micron Price Guides (MPG), rising between three and 109 cents over the country.
In addition, crossbreds and skirtings saw a rise, while oddments recorded an increase by the smallest of margins.
Most sellers generally accepted the higher prices on offer, with the passed in rate falling to 4.8%, which is 8.5% lower than the previous week.
The Australian dollar (AUD) continues to play a pivotal role in the market, continuing it's sharp downward trend over the week, falling to 62.5 US cents.
When viewed in US dollar terms, the EMI lost further ground, falling by 13 cents. In this aspect, the EMI is at its lowest point since October 2020, currently sitting at 794 US cents.
Next week there is expected to be 37,122 bales on offer in Fremantle, Melbourne and Sydney.
