Every week, Quality Wool Managing Director Mark Dyson brings you his summary of the week in wool.
The Australian wool market has continued its downward trend this week, with the AWEX Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) dropping 20 cents to end the week at 1,235c/kg.
The finer Merino fleece types were a large attributer to this, with 18.5 micron and finer dropping between
In addition, overall losses in the medium/broad Merino types, crossbreds, skirtings and oddments, resulted in a 20 cent fall in the EMI.
The 28 and 30 micron crossbreds have continued their steady decline, highlighted by the 28 micron MPG in the South recording a loss of 14 cents to bring it to 338 cents, while the 30 micron MPG remains at its lowest point on record (297 cents).
These results mean that the EMI has reached 12 weeks without an increase and has lost 239 cents in this period, and is yet to see an increase so far this season.
Comparatively to last week, the Australian dollar strengthened against the US, with a gain of 0.62 cents meaning the EMI lost only five US cents for the week.
Quantities for next week will reduce slightly, with there currently expected to be 35,881 bales on offer in Fremantle, Melbourne and Sydney.
