Charity wool auction this month
The charity auctions have raised more than $150,000 for the “home away from home’’ that supports families with seriously ill children attending The Children’s Hospital Westmead, and
“Once again, our wool drive for Ronald McDonald House Westmead has been well supported by growers and it looks like we will have around 10,000 kilograms of wool to put to auction,’’ Chris said.
Normally held in November, he said the auction was delayed until March this year to avoid the harvest period and summer holidays and this had allowed a number of new growers to contribute wool toward the initiative, which was most encouraging.
“Donations have come in from around our stores at Parkes, Orange, Wagga Wagga and Condobolin, but also from near Oberon, up through Dubbo, Gilgandra and Coonamble, and down to Grenfell and Young.’’
“Growers have generally donated a butt or two with their wool clips.’’
Chris said he hoped delaying the auction would also better allow growers to get along to a special event at the company’s Parkes store, where they would get to view the auction and celebrate the contribution to Ronald McDonald House Westmead, which relies heavily on community fundraising and volunteers to help keep it operating.
