WITH an increased offering of Rams on 2022 and a number of those likely to be in an affordable bracket, this year’s Kiandra Poll Merinos Ram Sale will have something “to meet everyone’s range” says stud principal Ryan Kluska.

Kiandra are preparing to host their 28th annual on‑property Ram Sale near Bordertown on Thursday, August 31, conducted by Quality Wool and Livestock and with live‑streamed audio on AuctionsPlus.

Coming off a bumper 2022 sale where Kiandra registered a big leap in sale average, Ryan said he believed multiple factors will contribute to buyers being offered affordability in this year’s auction.

“We’re going to increase our offering this year to 120 Rams,” he said.

“And despite last year’s high average, there was a still a number of Rams in the $1000 ‑ $1500 range, which we expect to be the case again this year.

“We believe the combination of those two things will help keep the average down and make sure there’s something to meet everyone’s price range”.

Having built an excellent set of ABSVs that is evident throughout the Kiandra flock, Ryan said investing in data collection and accuracy was paying dividends and afforded clients confidence in their Ram selections.

“This allows us to properly reflect the full potential of the rams we have, and means buyers can confidently select traits that best meet their objectives,” he said.

“Within the actual run of Rams itself are those that are more wool‑focused, as well as Rams with emphasis on carcass traits.

“Combine that with trait‑leading breech wrinkle scores for those that require easy‑care, easy‑management, easy‑shearing sheep”.

Ryan buyers can expect find good‑structured, paddock‑run rams with “reliability and longevity” on sale day.

“They’re paddock ready and tested to go into the high rainfall environments, or alternatively they’ll keep out the dust in the sheep/wheat zone,” he said.

“They’ll perform exactly as they’ve been purchased – they won’t go backwards, and they’ll last”.

Kiandra Poll Merino 210023 had a yearly clean fleece weight of 22.21.

Looking to the future, Ryan said Kiandra’s focus will stay on refining key ASBVs to continue meeting their objectives such as fleece weight and trait‑leading worm resistance and breech wrinkle scores, as well as pursuing lower micron fleece value.

“Instead of having the biggest cutting sheep, we want to have the biggest value sheep”.

Interested parties have an opportunity to inspect Kiandra’s 2023 sale team and make selections at their pre‑sale open day on Friday, August 25 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

This year’s auction, which takes place the following Friday, will again incorporate AuctionsPlus interface, allowing for remote and interstate bidding and audio streaming the sale live online.

In addition to the 120 Rams on offer in the main auction, there will also be a number available for private selection.

A full sale catalogue will be available on AuctionsPlus later this month following the cataloguing of the 2023 sale rams.
