Lincoln Great Whites pip Tumby Bay for the Quality Wool Cup

The victorious Lincoln Great Whites team celebrating their success in the 2024 Quality Wool Cup, after pipping Tumby Bay for the spoils with a final round victory at Port Lincoln's Ravendale Complex.

Lincoln Great Whites have been crowned the 2024 Quality Wool Cup champions, going unbeaten in their four games to take out the two‑day, under‑14 mixed T20 cricket tournament played in Port Lincoln on Monday and Tuesday.

With Lincoln Great Whites and Tumby Bay both winning their first three games of the carnival, Tuesday afternoon's final‑round fixture between the two teams at the Ravendale Complex essentially became a knockout final, with the top‑of‑the‑table clash living up to all expectations.

Batting first, Tumby Bay posted a competitive score of 3/115 from their 20 overs thanks to vital contributions from Alfie Teller (33 retired) and Bryn Pugsley (31 retired), but it wouldn't prove enough as Lincoln Great Whites overhauled the target with nine balls to spare.

Oliver Haylock (30 retired) was the batting mainstay in the chase for Lincoln Great Whites, before captain Gabriel Treagus and Ryder Bilney guided their team home with a partnership of 27.

Over 100 junior cricketers from across Eyre Peninsula competed in the eight‑team tournament, with matches played at Centenary Oval, Poole Oval and the Ravendale Complex.

Quality Wool Cup individual trophy winners Bryn Pugsley (Batting, Tumby Bay), Alfie Teller (Fielding, Tumby Bay) and Cameron Siviour (Bowling, Great Flinders) with Quality's Greg Pearce, Louis Bond and Damien Johnson.

There were also a number of outstanding individual performances during the carnival, with leaders in batting, bowling and fielding vote aggregates awarded a custom Quality Wool cricket bat signed by Adelaide Strikers stars Thomas Kelly and Adam Hose.

Tumby Bay's Bryn Pugsley amassed 109 runs without being dismissed from four innings to take out the batting trophy, while his teammate Alfie Teller impressed coaches with his enthusiasm in the field to take home the fielding trophy.

The bowling trophy was awarded to Cameron Siviour who was a consistent force for Great Flinders with seven wickets, including a haul of 4/13 in the opening match against Eastern Eyre.
