Every week, Quality Wool Managing Director Mark Dyson brings you his summary of the week in wool.
The Australian fleece wool market has endured yet another week of up and down price fluctuations, although the overall net result was little change.
Individual Micron Price Guides (MPGs) fell by up to 44 cents on the first day of selling (with the Eastern Market Indicator dropping by 17 cents on the back of it), with the only outlier the 18 micron MPG which recorded a small increase.
With the final hour of selling in Fremantle showing signs of improvement, this positive trend carried into the second day, pushing prices higher nationally by up to 48 cents and retrieving most of the previous day’s losses.
These increases helped to push the EMI up by 11 cents for the day, recording an overall loss of six cents for the week to close at 1,144c/kg.
Crossbreds didn’t perform as well as the Merinos, with losses of up to 45 cents a contributing factor to the overall drop of the EMI.
Daily auction room lot limits have reverted to pre‑COVID levels meaning more wool can be offered over each day.
As a result the national offering for next week’s second‑last sale before the Christmas recess has increased, with there currently 41,827 bales on offer nationally.
