The Australian wool market has recorded an overall reduction this week for the third successive series, as the AWEX Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) lost 15 cents to close at 1,171c/kg.
With 32,899 bales offered, 4,858 bales less than the previous week, buyer demand was there from the opening but the prices they were prepared to pay were noticeably below those at the close of the previous week.
By the close of the first day, individual Micron Price Guides (MPGs) for Merino fleece had fallen up to 63 cents, with only the 20‑micron MPG in the West posting an increase as the EMI fell by 12 cents.
The market settled on day two, with many pockets recording increases.
MPG movements for 17.0 micron and coarser ranged between +20 and ‑8 cents, while strong demand on wool 20.0 micron and coarser pushed these MPGs higher as the EMI dropped three cents for the day.

The oddments were the other highlight and the only sector to record an overall positive result, with strong demand helping to push the three Merino Carding (MC) indicators up by an average of over eight cents.
The run of smaller sales is forecast to end, with there expected to be 11,369 more bales available next week.
There are currently 44,268 bales rostered for sale nationally.
