The Australian wool market has recorded an overall loss this week, with the Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) dropping 14 cents to close at 1,407c/kg.
Movements in Merino fleece Micron Price Guides (MPGs) nationally ranged from +14 cents on the 18.0 micron MPG in Fremantle, to ‑50 cents on the 17.0 micron MPG in Melbourne.
The skirting market was the strongest performing sector for the week, with these types generally fully firm to 15 cents dearer, while crossbreds recorded minimal change.
While the various market movements had the net result of pushing the EMI lower, when taking into account currency movements (the Australian Dollar was 1.1 cents higher than in the previous week), the market had an overall positive movement when viewed in US dollar terms, adding 5 US cents for the week to close at 1,026c/kg.
Although the EMI has fallen away from its highest point of the 2022 calendar year (the EMI reached 1,449 cents in Week 31), it’s still trading 49 cents higher than its opening level of the year and 97 cents above its level of the corresponding sale of the previous season.
Next week’s national offering remains relatively large, with 2,342 more bales rostered than this week and 52,546 bales currently expected to be offered nationally.
Sale days will be Wednesday and Thursday due to a Monday Public Holiday in the Western region.
