Driven mainly by losses in the Merino sector, the Australian wool market has experienced losses this week, with the Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) dropping 21 cents to close at 1,319c/kg.
More than five per cent of the offering was withdrawn prior to sale leaving 37,630 bales on offer, with the bulk of the losses felt on the first day by all Merino microns and descriptions.

The market settled to a degree on day two, with Eastern market movements ranging from +16 to ‑20 cents, while Fremantle recovered slightly showing promising signs for next week’s sales.
Understandably, the drop in the market pushed the national passed in rate up to 14.2 per cent, some four per cent higher than the previous week.
Despite the falls experienced so far in the 2021/22 season, the market is still beyond the price levels of this time last year.
Compared to the corresponding sale of the previous season, the EMI is 130 cents higher, an increase of 10.9 per cent.
Despite the softer market, the national offering for next week has climbed, with 44,754 bales currently expected to be offered in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle.
