The Australian wool market has recorded a small overall loss of nine cents to the AWEX Eastern Market Indicator this week, closing at 1,352c/kg, although there were positive signs with the market strengthening late.
As the market opened on the 34,573 bales offered, buyers were cautious in their approach, as prices for Merino fleece types dropped
As mentioned earlier, the market rallied on the back of spirited bidding for 19.5 micron and coarser wools, pushing the EMI back up by seven cents for the day.
The EMI currently sits 44.3 per cent higher than at the same time last year, which combined with the larger amount put through the auction system (73,328 more bales than the same time last year), has pushed the national turnover amount well above last year’s level.
At the same time last year, the total turnover amount (in AUD) was $263.42 million.
By the end of this week the turnover amount for the current season is $401.66 million, an increase of over 138 million dollars.
