Every week, Quality Wool Managing Director Mark Dyson brings you his summary of the week in wool.
The Australian wool market has experienced overall losses in Week 9, with the softer tone at the end of the previous sale carrying into this week.
With an increased offering of 35,119 bales presented to the trade, buyer demand wasn’t as strong as the week prior and individual Micron Price Guides (MPGs) in the Eastern centres for 17.0 micron and coarser lost between
On the back of these losses, the AWEX Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) fell by 18 cents for the week, closing at 1,332 cents.
The market finished with some positive signs, with Sydney recording a slight overall increase for the final day while Fremantle, selling last, recorded some solid gains to help the Western region indicator add nine cents for the day (pushing the region into an overall gain of five cents for the week).
Although the EMI has lost 91 cents since the start of the selling season, a 6.4 per cent drop, the market is still trading well above the levels being achieved 12 months ago.
When compared to the corresponding sale of the previous season, the EMI is sitting 474 cents higher, an increase of 55 per cent.
Next week’s rostered quantity slightly increases, with 37,123 bales currently expected to be offered in Melbourne, Fremantle and Sydney.
